On Terry Shiavo (old marking)

I am deeply disturbed by her death because I believe it to be state sponsored murder. These are my arguments:

Definition of murder: "law: the crime of killing another person deliberately and not in self-defense or with any other extenuating circumstance recognized by law " from the Encarta dictionary.
Removing Terry's tube when she was physically healthy, was a positive act performed deliberately and not in self defense.
Following the Terry's wishes, even if correct, does not change the situation since suicide or assisted suicide is not permitted in the US. (Except in Washington State?)
Claiming that the tube was an extraordinary medial treatment is possible only before the treatment is started. That is refusing medical treatment and would not constitute murder. Removing the tube is an additional medical treatment which becomes the immediate cause of the death. Leaving it in, but not feeding or hydrating her through it, may not be murder.
Even if the previous point is accepted, preventing the patient from taking water and food orally by court order is murder in itself.

I really liked your show with Hugh and Michael. While I disagree with them on whether the state committed murder. Being one of the child survivors of WW2 (born in China), I am acutely aware of what happened in Germany in the 30's. Having an aging mother, and beginning to be in the "dangerous" age myself, I really struggled with the what Terri represents.
