This is an old posting, but given current events, it shows how much Israel should pay attention to the UN.
The current scramble by diplomats from the US, Europe, the UN, and all other friends of Israel and the Palestinians shows clearly why good will gestures, like everything else in a war situations, need to be symmetrical.
The Israeli's suspended building in all occupied areas, even those which will clearly remain in Israeli hands, 10 months ago. The Palestinians had 10 months to show good will and talk about Peace. Instead they refused until the end of the moratorium and made it an unalterable demand that the suspension be made permanent, or until the Messiah and Peace arrive.
It is high time that Israel learn that all gestures become pre-conditions, and that there is no good will on the side of those opposed to its very existence.
With good will, why not create a list of all those areas which will stay in Israeli hands, and allow construction to continue? Separate into three locations. A) Where Israeli sovereignty will be preserved, B) under further scrutiny, and C) where Palestinian sovereignty will remain. Then construction could continue on A and B while on C it would be proscribed.
Lastly, Arabs living in Israel are allowed to build. Why should not Jews in Judea and Samaria be allowed to build?
The Palestinians have already said they cannot accept a Jewish State. So why should Israel accept an Arab only State like it did with Gaza (with great success!)
