Daily Musings 5/20/2016 - Krautheimer WAPO

WAPO: Donald Hillary and the bernie factor-- Charles Krauthammer

Except for adjectival expletives (demagogic, nativist, and other nonsensical and baseless adjectives) K has it right. Trump has a much better tactical understanding on how to respond to crisis. So, who do you want to pick up the phone at 3 AM, someone whose native understanding of the situation is excellent, or Hillary, who needs to consult her donor list before reaching a decision?

"The Republicans’ ideological about-face is even more pronounced. They’ve chosen as their leader a nationalist populist who hardly bothers to pretend any allegiance to conservatism. Indeed, Donald Trump is, like Sanders, running to the left of Clinton on a host of major issues including trade, Wall Street, NATO and interventionism. "

The ideological shift is away from Neocon's and strict conservativists like K. It is closer to the Kennedy Democrats that some of us oldsters were and well remember. Regan was one of us, one whose party, the Democrats, left behind on their search for socialism. I don't know what "to the left" means. I know I am for a strong foreign affairs, alliances and agreements that are favorable to the US and not just others, and internally for smaller government and leaving the states alone.  Those are the position of most Trump supporters, and, I hope, his.

The democrats are gripped in a fascinating dance towards socialism, I hope the remain in that dance and lose big.  But, no matter what happens, Trump is better than the "main stream" GOP which aligns with Democrats on eliminating our past (by eliminating references to the South) and eliminating, aligns with Democrats on passing budgets that are enormous, and have never had the nerve to stand on their principles instead of just talking about them.
