The "Humanitarian" ships to Gaza -- Part 4

For those who are confused about the "Humanitarian Ships:"

We have a war situation, a blockade has been declared and ships entered it. Out of humanitarian considerations, and because in the past such incursions where peacefully resolved, Israel decided to treat them as a peaceful demonstration. They made a mistake.

The ships were propaganda battleships designed to injure Israel in the on-going propaganda offensive against Israel. They were a huge success and we can expect many repetitions until Israel caves (a great achievement of "peaceful" diplomacy) or is even further isolated by politically correct countries, or those who do not care (i.e. Most of the world.)

The solution to the conundrum is simple. Treat war as war. In the words of the Leviathan (Hobbs) treat war as what it is, the state of nature, and make it "Nasty, Bruttish, and Short."

War is cruelty. There's no use trying to reform it, the crueler it is the sooner it will be over. -William Tecumseh Sherman

War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want. -William Tecumseh Sherman

The protracted police actions of the Western Democracies (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan) when they fight, or the protracted diplomatic actions of Western Democracies when they don't act (Biafra, Rwanda, Darfur) kill millions and do not achieve much. "Peace in our times" and lack of resolve almost always result in more civilian casualties than forceful action leading to a quick end of war see WWII as an example.

Israel's adoption of these mechanisms is scary. It has neither the strategic or population depth to survive large scale setbacks. The effects of doing too little for the same penalty as doing what is necessary can bring the same economic and political isolation without achieving either deterrence or peace.

I firmly believe that in the end, political correctness will kill many more civilians, than effective and strong action. I hoped Israel had learned that lesson in the 2nd Lebanese War and in Cast Lead (Gaza) where nothing was accomplish and peace was not the goal.
