I was impressed by her answer, and it was plausible. If she deserves the benefit of the doubt, and I believe she does, I would not be for denying her the seat.
Her position is that we all are a product of our backgrounds, which is why more than one judge is necessary. That we all see the world through the peculiarities of that background (Kant would add our mental equipment). As a result, we need to be aware of these tendencies precisely because we need to compensate for them to be "blind" and unbiased.
Good answer, although it does not answer why she would be better as a Wise Old Latina, to a Wise Old Woman of any background!
