Daily Roundup - Feb 17, 2016 - Judges and Legislative Power

WAPO: Reid to GOP: For the good of the country, stop your nakedly partisan obstruction - Harry Reid

Having lived through months and years of Democratic Obstructionism and the open statements that Republican Presidents should not be allowed to appoint Supremes, I find this article rather comic.

We should go back to the constitution. Advice and Consent should mean: The Senate Proposes a list of Judges to the President,  the advice portion, and the President selects one.  If the nominee is not on the list, the Senate rejects him out of hand, and points again to its list of acceptable judges.

How these judges are adjudicated is a matter of making a deal. Maybe Trump should be brought in to give a helping hand.

This concludes the immediate response to Reid's article.  More on detail now.

Having gridlocked the Senate for years, Republicans now want to gridlock the Supreme Court with a campaign of partisan sabotage aimed at denying the president’s constitutional duty to pick nominees.

For the past 6 years, the Senate has blocked most  Budget law (there are 14 of them each year) to force the budget to consist of only a single Omnibus bill, one which can be passed or close the government. The following is from CRS Reports published by the Senate (Reid's domain) shows what the law is, although that is completely thwarted if the Senate does not take up, or approve House money bills.

The following is a table of what has happened under Harry Reid:
